21st Blue Ridge Kite Festival- CANCELED @ Roanoke County's Green Hill Park

This event has been canceled due to health concerns regarding the coronavirus.

The 21st annual Kite Festival held in Green Hill Park is a favorite springtime day of outdoor family fun! This event offers free admission, free parking, free children’s t-shirts, and free kites to the first 1,000 children attending with an adult. Awesome colors and shapes paint the skies as kites take flight. The result is a breath-taking sight that shouldn’t be missed. For many years, the Blue Ridge Kite Festival was quoted as being “The Richmond Air Force Kite Club’s favorite and a model of planning, efficiency, and hospitality.” The Richmond Air Force Kite Club provides an entire day of quality entertainment! On average, over 9,000 spectators come to this annual family festival. Each year folks return to explore and participate in kiting activities, take a brief kite flying lesson or just relax and watch the show. Don’t forget to bring your own kite or get there early and pick up a free one so you can join in all the fun!
Food and craft vendors are also on site for everyone’s enjoyment. Numerous local sponsors bring support and enthusiasm to this much anticipated event. Plan on being intrigued and delighted as you watch championship flyers, quad line kites, participate in kid’s contests and custom-kite exhibits, have a caricature done by a local caricature artist and explore the arts and crafts vendors and much more. You will be mesmerized and revitalized at the end of this spectacular day!
The Blue Ridge Kite Festival is presented by Roanoke County Parks, Recreation & Tourism.

Butterfly Awareness Day @ Beagle Ridge Herb Farm Tickets
Jun 6 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Butterfly Awareness Day @ Beagle Ridge Herb Farm

On Saturday, June 6th, we will celebrate Butterfly Awareness Day at Beagle Ridge Herb Farm from  10:00- 2:00. The Association for Butterflies has designated the first Saturday of June as Butterfly Awareness Day. We hope you take a few moments to celebrate these important pollinators and environmental indicators with us. On Butterfly Awareness Day, we want to show just how important butterflies are to all of us. Without butterflies there would be a dramatic loss in pollination necessary for plant reproduction, just think of all the fruits and seeds that people and animals eat!  Unfortunately, habitat destruction is Public Enemy Number 1 for our native butterfly populations. Overuse of pesticides, herbicides and exotic monocultures of plants are contributing to the decline of many butterfly species. Please join us at Flying Flowers for a variety of activities including a walk through the butterfly house. We will have butterfly host and nectar plants for sale.By learning about the butterfly life cycle you can learn about which of these Flying Flowers are living in your gardens.

Movie Nights at the Farm @ NC Outdoor Adventures

While there is so much to be gained from living in a small rural community, there is also a down side: a lack of things to do and a lack of night life. In 2020, NC Outdoor Adventures will start hosting “Movie Nights at the Farm”. We will project outdoor recreation films and movies onto one of our barns. It might not be a drive in, but it will be close enough, providing our community with something to do on those long summer evenings.

Schedule: 3rd Saturday of every Month June – September starting at 7PM

June 20th: Free Solo

July 18th: Dawn Wall

August 15th: Reel Rock
